Week 5: Chapter 5

Chapter 5: Routines for Engaging in Action

We read about 6 different thinking routines for engaging in action in Chapter 6. These routines provided many opportunities for reflection, making connections, and discussion with peers. These six routines were:

  • PG&E: Predict-Gather-Explain
  • ESP+1
  • Be-Sure-To
  • What? So What? Now What?
  • 3 Y's
  • 4 If's

"I just needed to listen to them first rather than directing them. If I could actually give myself the chance to hear from them what they think their next viable actions should be or what goals they set for themselves, I could then reflect upon what skills I needed to get in front of them next, in a better situated way."

Chapter 5 Reflection Tasks:

1. Which of these thinking routines do you want to explore with your scholars?

2. Which of these thinking routines do you find challenging or foresee roadblocks with your scholars or find least helpful?

3. Are there any thinking routines you would like to implement but feel you would need to adapt for your scholars?

Don't forget to comment on another colleague's reflection!
