Week 4: Chapter 4
Chapter 4 : Routines for Engaging With Ideas
Chapter 4 gives us six thinking routines for engaging with ideas! Most of these routines foster an opportunity for movement through the class, discussion with peers, visuals, and interactive dialogue as a class. These six thinking routines are:
- Questioning Sorts
- Peeling the Fruit
- The Story Routine: Main-Side-Hidden
- Beauty and Truth
- NDA: Name-Describe-Act
- Take Note
"I suppose in the past, I was afraid I wouldn't know what to do with students' questions if I weren't completely in charge. I think I am finally getting the idea of what my role can be in creating a thinking classroom. I have to believe in what my students can do!"
Chapter 4 Reflection Tasks:
1. Are you familiar with any of these thinking routines? How are these thinking routines engaging scholars with ideas on a deeper level than activities or discussions you typically have with scholars?
2.Which of these thinking routines are you planning to put into practice with your scholars?
